A joint team of officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized several sacks of suspected cannabis during an intelligence-led operation in Limuru Sub-County.

The operation, conducted by officers from the DCI’s Transnational Organized Crime Unit and Anti-Narcotics Unit in collaboration with personnel from Mutarakwa Police Post, targeted a vehicle suspected to be transporting narcotics along the Mai Mahiu–Nairobi Road.

According to investigators, the officers mounted a sting operation at Mutarakwa Trading Centre after receiving credible intelligence about the movement of illegal drugs in the area.

During the operation, the officers intercepted a dark blue Toyota Crown, registration number KCZ 797W. The driver, identified as Brian Thomas Wachika, was arrested at the scene.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of four-and-a-half sacks containing green plant material believed to be cannabis sativa. Authorities said the estimated street value of the narcotics is yet to be determined.

Police said the vehicle had two occupants at the time of interception, but the second suspect managed to escape during the operation. Investigators have launched a manhunt to trace and arrest the fleeing suspect.

The arrested suspect and the recovered exhibits were transported to the DCI Headquarters for further processing and documentation.

Police indicated that Wachika is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations reiterated its commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks and combating drug trafficking across the country.
