Three people have been arrested following a joint operation by Kenya Railways and the Port Police after they were found siphoning fuel from a train at Sultan Hamud Railway Station.
Those arrested include a locomotive driver, Nicodemus Keya, a security guard, Mutunga Mwanzia, and a third suspect, Geoffrey Irungu. The trio was nabbed after members of the public alerted authorities to suspicious activity at the station.
Police officers responded promptly to the tip-off and caught the suspects in the act. During the operation, officers recovered two 20-litre jerrycans and two 18-litre water dispenser bottles, all filled with petrol believed to have been siphoned from the train.
The train was temporarily held at the station as arrangements were made for a replacement driver. Meanwhile, the suspects were escorted to Emali Railway Police Station, where they are being processed ahead of their arraignment in court.
The National Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting fuel theft and other forms of economic sabotage, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in safeguarding critical national infrastructure
