Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has warned President William Ruto against attempting to rig the 2027 General elections.
He accused the President of trying to lay the groundwork to manipulate the 2027 General Election through the ongoing selection of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson and commissioners.
“Rigging is a process,” Kalonzo declared. “The choices being made for IEBC leadership expose what Ruto intends to do—our international friends are watching.”
Addressing mourners in Kathangu, Tseikuru (Kitui County) during the burial of his 105-year-old uncle, David Mburu Mairu, the former Vice-President also cautioned the President against persecuting political rivals.
“Mr. Ruto, you will neither steal the vote nor intimidate leaders. If you plan to arrest Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, arrest me too and learn that this country is not your personal property,” he said.
Kalonzo urged the Head of State to respect Kenyans’ constitutional freedom of political association.
He labeled the charges pressed against Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya “purely political” and promised to defend him in court.
“These accusations are mere innuendos meant to embarrass the governor. The DCI is lucky those damaged vehicles are still there as evidence,” he quipped, referencing protesters’ reaction to Natembeya’s arraignment.
Turning to local development, Kalonzo accused successive governments—first Jubilee and now Kenya Kwanza—of “deliberately codifying economic injustice” against the people of Tseikuru and Mwingi.
He cited the stalled Tseikuru Airstrip, saying funds allocated through the National Youth Service and Kenya Airports Authority have yet to translate into action. Even so, he rallied residents to remain resolute.
“Our economic liberation will come from the East,” Kalonzo concluded. “We have seen every trick deployed against us. There are no cards left to play—Ruto knows very well that I will send him home.”
