A somber cloud hung over Makueni County on Monday as preliminary autopsy reports revealed the devastating impact of the Ngoluni accident that claimed seven lives along the Itangini–Tawa road. Four of the victims — a mother and her three children — had their postmortems conducted at the Makueni Referral Hospital.
Dr. James Mbui, a pathologist with the Makueni County Government, confirmed that six of the bodies are preserved at Tawa Funeral Home, while one remains at the county referral hospital.
“We have so far managed to do four postmortems. Three are still pending — two at Tawa and one here at the county referral hospital,” Dr. Mbui said.
According to him, the findings from Monday’s examinations paint a tragic picture of the force of the crash. The 41-year-old mother, identified as Jemima, suffered severe chest and abdominal injuries, including fractures of long bones, resulting in what the pathologist described as “massive bleeding.”
Her three children — aged 3, 10, and 14 — also sustained fatal injuries. The youngest, three-year-old Esther, succumbed to severe abdominal trauma and multiple chest fractures, leading to massive hemorrhage.
Her brother, 10-year-old Caleb Musili, died from severe abdominal injuries and multiple chest wounds. “There was a lot of blood in both the chest and abdominal cavities,” Dr. Mbui noted.
The eldest, 14-year-old Chris Musili, suffered severe head injuries in addition to serious abdominal trauma. Dr. Mbui emphasized that these were only preliminary findings, with full reports expected later.
“Of course, later we will compile full reports which we shall present to the families and also to the investigative agencies,” he stated.
The Ngoluni accident, reported on Friday last week, has left families shattered and the community in mourning as investigations continue into what caused the tragic crash.
Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution on the busy Itangini–Tawa road, which has recently recorded a rise in fatal accidents
