Kenya Military Veterans in Machakos County scored a major win after Governor Wavinya Ndeti announced that her administration will allocate them 10 acres of land in the upcoming Machakos City.
Speaking during the official launch of the Kenya Military Veterans Machakos Chapter, Governor Ndeti said the land will provide a foundation for building a modern facility tailored to address the welfare and empowerment needs of the veterans.
“I give you 10 acres of land in the new Machakos City. I’ve given you the foundation and we will walk the journey together,” she affirmed.
The Governor praised the veterans for their courage, sacrifices, and discipline, stressing that their mission to serve the nation does not end with retirement. She urged them to remain active in shaping communities, mentoring young people, and promoting the values that defined their service years—integrity, courage, duty, and discipline.
Ndeti further assured the veterans that her administration is committed to easing their transition to civilian life, noting that their unmatched skills and resilience will continue to play a crucial role in advancing Machakos’ development agenda.
Retired Brigadier Joe Mweu, Chairman of the Kenya Military Veterans Machakos Chapter, expressed gratitude for the support they had received, saying the unveiling of the Chapter’s Constitution marked a new dawn despite past challenges.
“The road has not been easy, but today we lay a foundation for our welfare and dignity even in civilian life,” said Mweu.
General Lucas Tumbo, Chairman of the Advisory Committee, encouraged the Chapter to look beyond welfare and focus on economic empowerment, including establishing a Sacco for job creation and income generation.
Major General Charles Mwanzia pledged the veterans’ support for the Governor’s youth empowerment programs, emphasizing the need for mentorship and discipline in society.
Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi lauded Governor Ndeti’s gesture and appealed for further support in setting up a modern facility on the allocated land to comprehensively cater for the veterans’ welfare and empowerment needs.
