Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has come out guns blazing against President William Ruto, accusing him of deliberately stalling major infrastructure projects meant to uplift the Ukambani region and open up critical economic corridors across the country.

Speaking at Kilome on Thursady, Kalonzo expressed outrage over what he termed as "blatant economic sabotage" by the Kenya Kwanza administration, revealing that the President had canceled a multi-billion shilling tender awarded to an American company to dual the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway — a project that was set to revolutionize transport and trade from the coast to the capital and beyond.

“Every week on this road, we continue to lose our people, especially between Emali and Salama,” said Kalonzo. “How many more lives must be lost before the government hears our cry?”

Kalonzo further revealed that President Ruto recently moved to cancel the ambitious High Grand Falls Dam project, initially launched during President Mwai Kibaki’s tenure under the Vision 2030 framework.

The dam, which was expected to generate over 650 megawatts of electricity and support large-scale irrigation across Kitui, Tana River, and Garissa counties, would have been a game changer for food security and energy production in the country.

“Instead of building transformative projects, the President is focusing on constructing churches within State House — using public resources under the guise of personal donations,” Kalonzo charged. “State House is a public facility, not a private sanctuary.”

He likened the developments to a "State House version of Shakahola," referring to the recent cult-related tragedy in Kilifi County, and questioned the source of funds for a church project allegedly worth KSh 1 billion. “The President earns less than KSh 2 million per month. Where is he getting that kind of money?” Kalonzo asked, demanding accountability and transparency.

Turning his focus to Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Kalonzo criticized his frequent tours across the country under the banner of empowerment. “We are seeing the Deputy President hovering all over the country bribing Kenyans in the name of empowerment. It is time we say enough is enough,” he declared.

Kalonzo confirmed that Wiper Party has instructed its legal team to move to court to challenge the cancellation of both the highway and dam projects.

“We will not allow anyone to kill the vision of this country. These are not just regional projects — they are of national importance and are critical for Kenya’s economic future,” he asserted.

He concluded with a promise that should the opposition take power in the next two to three years, reviving the Mombasa-Nairobi highway dualing project and the High Grand Falls Dam would be a top priority.
