Machakos County Assembly has struck a strategic partnership with the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) aimed at deepening political inclusivity and rolling out civic and voter education campaigns across the county.
The pact was unveiled during a courtesy call to Assembly Speaker Hon. Anne Kiusya by officials from ORPP–Lower Eastern Region. Also present at the meeting were Majority Leader Hon. Nicholas Nzioka and Acting Assembly Clerk Mr. Peter Mbatha.
Top on the agenda was the joint roll-out of comprehensive civic and voter education programs targeting youth, women, and persons with disabilities. The campaigns are expected to equip citizens with knowledge on their democratic rights and responsibilities, while also encouraging higher voter participation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“This collaboration comes at a critical moment when we need to empower our people with the right information, especially the youth and marginalized groups. Civic and voter education will ensure our citizens make informed choices and actively participate in shaping their governance,” said Speaker Kiusya.
In addition, the Assembly pledged continued consultation with ORPP on political party matters including membership management, inclusivity, and strengthening party offices. The two institutions will also organize capacity-building sessions for MCAs and staff on the Political Parties Act, internal party democracy, and national values.
Significantly, ORPP will serve as a neutral mediator for political disputes within the Assembly, while the Assembly leadership expressed commitment to creating a conducive political environment as the 2027 elections draw closer.
The partnership underscores the Assembly’s determination to foster political tolerance, uphold good governance, and promote public participation as key pillars of democracy in Machakos County.
