Wiper Patriotic Front and Ukombozi Alliance Party leader Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has accused President William Ruto of electoral malpractice, as he renewed his call for opposition unity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kalonzo spoke during a series of public engagement rallies in Busia County, where he was accompanied by DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa and Democratic Party (DP) leader JB Muturi.
The leaders reflected on their long political association with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and pledged to continue championing the democratic ideals and causes they pursued together.
Kalonzo revisited previous elections and what he described as electoral injustices that he and Raila experienced, claiming that Ruto was responsible for stealing votes.
“Nimejua mwizi mkubwa wa kura si Uhuru Kenyatta, ni William Ruto,” Kalonzo said.
He also recalled remarks previously made about Raila, saying, “Alisema atasafirisha Baba kwenda Bondo bila kumjia, na si alimsafirisha.”
Muturi, meanwhile, raised concerns over what he described as statements and actions by senior officials in the Ruto administration that could undermine the independence of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The former Attorney General questioned reports of political mobilisation in Uganda and urged the IEBC to scrutinise the conduct of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
Muturi challenged the electoral commission to demonstrate its independence as Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election.
Kalonzo also highlighted his record in government, citing his contribution to the expansion of access to education, including the introduction of Free Primary Education and the establishment of the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
He said that despite being out of government for more than two decades, he had remained engaged in efforts to promote justice, constitutionalism and the rule of law.
Kalonzo cited his involvement in legal challenges against the proposed sale of a 15 per cent stake in Safaricom and the proposed JKIA deal, as well as his legal representation of Gen Z protesters who were allegedly abducted and later charged.
The opposition leaders thanked Busia residents for their reception and reaffirmed their commitment to working together in pursuit of opposition unity, constitutionalism and the protection of the integrity of the 2027 electoral process.
