An attempted prison escape plot was foiled at Ruai Police Station after an 18-year-old woman allegedly concealed metal-cutting tools inside a plate of food intended for three remanded suspects.
Christine Njoki Gitau, 18, had visited the station purporting to deliver a meal to three friends detained over allegations of robbery with violence and gang rape.
According to police, Gitau arrived at the station reception carrying a plate of rice and meat, claiming it was food for the suspects.
The three detainees—Emmanuel Bosire, Ismael Arisa and Brian Gatheru—are being held in connection with allegations that they operated an anonymous TikTok account used to lure young women into meetings, where they allegedly gang-raped them and stole their valuables.
However, the visit took an unexpected turn when a sharp-eyed cell sentry subjected the food to a routine inspection.
Officers reportedly discovered a pair of pliers and a shear concealed beneath the meal, raising suspicions that the tools were intended to help the suspects break out of custody.
Gitau was immediately arrested as detectives launched investigations into the alleged escape plot and whether other individuals were involved.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has warned members of the public against aiding or attempting to facilitate the escape of persons held in lawful custody, stressing that such conduct constitutes a serious criminal offence.
The agency said those found aiding escape attempts would face the full force of the law.
