Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said Kenya is headed in the wrong direction and called for a united opposition to restore constitutionalism, the rule of law and good governance.
Speaking after chairing the Joint Azimio Council and National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, Kalonzo said opposition leaders were working towards building a broader, stronger and united political movement ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“We have a responsibility to change course,” Kalonzo said, adding that the opposition’s commitment to defending constitutional rights and human dignity would remain central to its political agenda.
The former Vice President also condemned what he described as the harassment and intimidation of Burundian nationals living in Kenya, saying citizens of Burundi, as members of the East African Community, deserved dignity and respect.
“Our brothers and sisters from Burundi are part of the East African Community, and they deserve dignity, not suspicion,” he said, urging Kenya to uphold the spirit of regional integration and remain a good neighbour.
Kalonzo further raised concerns over what he termed growing political violence and the use of goons to disrupt opposition activities.
He claimed there were plans by the government to deploy individuals to disrupt the Linda Mwananchi political gathering scheduled for Sunday, allegations he said the opposition strongly condemned.
The Wiper leader maintained that every Kenyan has a constitutional right to assemble, associate and express themselves peacefully, saying these freedoms must be protected regardless of political affiliation.
“Restoring Kenya to constitutionalism means restoring dignity to everyone within her borders,” Kalonzo said. “That is the nation we are building.”
