Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) for Waia Division, Margaret Mbeiyu Nguma, has lauded Kitondo Boys’ High School for its remarkable academic strides while urging students to push beyond limits and uphold discipline as a key pillar to future success.

Speaking during the school’s Education Day held on Saturday, the ACC congratulated the institution for achieving a mean score of 8.05 in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), a performance that saw 10 students attain a mean grade of A-, with 90 percent of the candidates transitioning to university.

“I want to sincerely thank your principal for the tremendous work he has done in just four years. The improvement in the mean scores since 2021 and the overall facelift of the school is highly commendable,” Nguma said.

Citing the strong collaboration between the school leadership and teachers, she expressed confidence that the ambitious target of a 9.7 mean score for this year was well within reach.

“I challenge you boys to make your principal proud by exceeding expectations,” she added.

Beyond academics, the ACC took a firm stance on discipline, urging students to stay away from distractions such as drug abuse, social media indulgence, and idleness during holidays.

“When you close school, don’t waste your time on Facebook, TikTok, or hanging around in the market. Luxury has no end,” she warned. “If you want to become a better person in future, you must be ready to deny yourself some pleasures now. Maintain high levels of discipline.”

Nguma also had a candid message for parents, emphasizing the critical role of a peaceful home environment in academic success.

“I challenge you, parents, let your bedroom matters not interfere with your children’s learning. Your differences should not be brought before them. When children lack peace at home, it negatively affects their classroom performance.”

She further encouraged students to emulate the school’s alumni, some of whom have risen to become medical pathologists, lawyers, and administrators.

Also present at the event was County Director of Education Charles Nyakundi, who praised Kitondo Boys for its excellence in both academics and co-curricular activities, especially in rugby.

“The rugby team has been doing very well. After this event, they’ll be heading to the national competitions in Kakamega, and I’m confident they will shine just like last year,” Nyakundi said.

He commended the school for maintaining integrity in sports, distancing itself from the emerging vice of fielding non-students in school competitions.

“Hawa si mamuluki, hawa ni wanafunzi halisi wa hii shule,” he affirmed. “Some schools are now renting players from Kibera, dressing them in school uniforms and parading them as students. I’m glad this school has upheld honesty.”

He echoed the ACC’s sentiments on hard work and discipline, reminding students that their 9.7 target is bold and achievable only through relentless commitment.

“Let every student know that michezo ni pesa — talanta yako ni hela yako. Nurture your talent and use it wisely,” he concluded.

The day ended with celebration and renewed commitment from students and staff alike to take Kitondo Boys’ High School to greater heights.
