The Kitui County Assembly has unanimously approved the 2026/2027 County Budget Estimates, clearing the way for the implementation of key development projects and public service programmes across the county.
The budget, amounting to KSh16.54 billion, was approved during Wednesday's sitting in accordance with the Public Finance Management Act, 2012, and the Assembly's Standing Orders.
While tabling the Budget and Appropriations Committee report, Acting Committee Chairperson Hon. Jacqulyne Kalenga said the budget provides the fiscal framework for revenue generation, expenditure management, policy implementation, and efficient service delivery.
During debate, Members of the County Assembly praised Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya and Governor Julius Makau Malombe for resolving the impasse that had delayed the budget's approval, saying the breakthrough will ensure timely rollout of development programmes.
MCAs described the budget as a negotiated instrument that reflects the county's development priorities and is expected to improve service delivery for residents.
Speaker Katisya commended Members, the Budget and Appropriations Committee, and Assembly staff for their dedication throughout the budget-making process, saying their teamwork ensured the House fulfilled its constitutional mandate.
He also lauded Governor Malombe for embracing a consultative approach with the Assembly, noting that the collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature strengthened accountability and resulted in a balanced and responsive budget for the people of Kitui.
