A 24-year-old woman is recovering from severe injuries after she was allegedly attacked by her former husband in a shocking incident at Kambu in Kibwezi East, Makueni County.
The incident occurred on Friday at the woman's parents' home, opposite Kwakalembe Police Station, where the suspect, identified as Jackson Sila of Mbenuu Boys Band, reportedly confronted his ex-wife, Joyce Mutua, and demanded that they reconcile.
According to preliminary reports, Joyce declined the request, telling her former husband that she had endured repeated physical abuse during their marriage and was unwilling to return to the relationship.
The suspect allegedly became violent, biting off part of her nose before pulling out a knife and severing her right ear. He is also reported to have inflicted multiple cut wounds on her during the attack.
The victim was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment as police launched investigations into the incident.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the attack and is being held at Mtito Andei Police Station. He is expected to be arraigned at the Makindu Law Courts on Monday to face charges related to the assault.
Police have not yet released an official statement on the incident, while investigations continue. Authorities have condemned cases of gender-based violence and urged victims to report threats or abuse before situations escalate into life-threatening attacks.
