Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development Teresia Mbaika has lauded the church for providing a platform for truth, fairness and objective discussions, saying it offers a welcome contrast to the political rhetoric often witnessed at public rallies.
Speaking during a church fundraising service attended by President William Ruto at St. Martin's Cathedral in the Anglican Diocese of Kitui on Sunday, Mbaika said churches should remain spaces where Kenyans receive factual information on national issues.
She noted that political meetings are meant for political debate, but churches have a responsibility to guide the public with truthful and balanced messages.
"It is only in church where we get fairness, objectivity and where the language changes from politics to reality. We come to church to hear the truth, while we go to political forums to listen to politics," she said.
The Principal Secretary said she was encouraged by the discussions held during the service on key government programmes, including the Sovereign Wealth Fund and the Social Health Authority (SHA), adding that many Kenyans benefit when such issues are explained from the pulpit.
Mbaika also expressed concern over what she described as misinformation from some religious leaders, saying the church should remain committed to presenting accurate information to congregants.
"I feel excited because today we have discussed issues that some of us may not fully understand, such as the Sovereign Wealth Fund and SHA. It feels good when such matters are explained in church," she said.
Addressing President Ruto, the Makueni-born Principal Secretary thanked him for what she termed his unwavering support for the Ukambani region, saying residents have witnessed increased government development projects in recent years.
She said the three counties of Makueni, Kitui and Machakos have experienced notable development under the Kenya Kwanza administration, describing it as evidence of inclusive leadership.
"For many years we were on the other side, but in the last few years, since we came into government, we have seen development in Makueni, Kitui and Machakos. That is what leadership is all about. Thank you for standing with the people of Ukambani," Mbaika said.
She joined other leaders from the Ukambani region in attending the fundraising event, where President Ruto reaffirmed his administration's commitment to partnering with religious institutions and accelerating development projects across the country.
