The County Government of Makueni has suspended the Medical Superintendent of Mtito Andei Sub-County Hospital following allegations of negligence linked to the death of a newborn during delivery.

In a statement issued by the Department of Health Services, county authorities announced that investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether any healthcare workers were responsible.

Chief Officer in charge of Health, Human Resource Management and Administration, Dr. Harvey Mulei, said the county administration had taken immediate action to facilitate an independent inquiry into the matter.

According to Dr. Mulei, the investigation aims to uncover the facts surrounding the newborn's death and ensure accountability if any officer is found to have acted negligently.

He assured members of the public that the inquiry would be conducted thoroughly, fairly, and without interference, adding that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against any individual found culpable.

“The county administration has launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Dr. Mulei said, emphasizing the government's commitment to transparency and accountability in public health facilities.

The suspension of the hospital superintendent comes amid growing public concern over the quality of maternal healthcare services and patient safety in public hospitals.

Makueni County Government reiterated its commitment to upholding quality healthcare standards and strengthening accountability mechanisms across all public health facilities to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The findings of the ongoing investigations are expected to guide further administrative and disciplinary measures as the county seeks answers over the tragic death of the newborn
