TVETA Shuts Down Kenya Institute of Management Over Illegal Courses

The (TVETA) has revoked the accreditation of the Kenya Institute of Management  (KIM), ordering the immediate closure of all its campuses nationwide over serious regulatory violations.

In a public notice dated April 20, 2026, the authority announced that investigations had established KIM was offering and awarding academic and professional programmes without proper accreditation. TVETA stated that the institution had continued to run unapproved courses and issue qualifications in direct contravention of the .

The regulator further disclosed that KIM had engaged trainers who lacked valid certification, breaching legal requirements governing technical and vocational education and training in the country.

TVETA warned that KIM does not have the legal mandate to award qualifications, declaring that any certificates, diplomas, or academic credentials issued by the institution from 2018 onwards will not be recognized for employment, further studies, or professional advancement.

“Members of the public are advised to exercise caution and verify the accreditation status of any institution before enrolling in any programme of study,” the notice read.

The authority emphasized that the move was taken in line with its mandate under the TVET Act to regulate and uphold quality standards in Kenya’s training institutions.

TVETA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the country’s education system, warning that strict action will continue to be taken against institutions operating outside the law.
