Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has called on political leaders to uphold respect and civility as the country heads toward next year’s General Elections.
Speaking during an Iftar dinner she hosted for the Machakos Muslim community at her office, the Governor cautioned against the rising trend of insults and personal attacks in political discourse. She emphasized that such conduct not only erodes the dignity of leadership but also sets a poor example for young people who look up to leaders for guidance.
Wavinya noted that the behavior of politicians directly influences societal norms, warning that continued verbal exchanges among leaders could normalize disrespect among the youth.
She urged leaders to embrace issue-based politics, stressing that failure to rein in toxic rhetoric risks undermining national cohesion during a critical electoral period.
At the same event, the Governor announced that her administration has initiated the process of issuing title deeds in the Machakos ‘Mjini’ area, addressing long-standing land ownership challenges faced by residents.
She revealed that mapping exercises will begin shortly, with a formal communication expected within two weeks to guide residents on the application process.
The move is expected to provide legal ownership to hundreds of residents, enhancing security of tenure and unlocking economic opportunities in the area.
