Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr on Monday officially commissioned the Ngaakaa Level 3 Health Facility in Makindu–Twaandu Ward, marking a major milestone in the county’s efforts to expand access to quality healthcare services.

The facility, which was constructed through a partnership between the County Government of Makueni, World Vision Kenya and the Mountain Blue Foundation, is set to serve more than 8,000 residents from the ward and neighbouring areas.

During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Mutula unveiled key supporting infrastructure at the facility, including four one-bedroom en-suite staff quarters, two 15-kilogram commercial heavy-duty laundry machines that are Wi-Fi enabled and can be operated remotely, and a 50-kilowatt-hour powerhouse.

The power system will support critical medical equipment such as an X-ray machine, a sterilizer, an ultrasound unit and all laboratory equipment, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.

Ngaakaa Level 3 Health Facility houses a fully equipped Mother and Child Hospital offering antenatal and postnatal care, cervical cancer screening and child welfare clinic services, complete with a patient waiting bay. The facility also includes an acute care room, a fully functional pharmacy and laboratory, a modern 15-bed maternity wing, an isolation ward and several consultation rooms.

Governor Mutula said the commissioning of the facility underscores his administration’s commitment to strengthening the health sector and advancing universal health coverage in the county. He noted that the investment will significantly reduce the distance residents travel to access essential medical services.

In addition, the Governor announced that Makindu Sub-County Hospital will soon begin offering dialysis services following the recent posting of a nephrologist. He said the move will ease the burden on patients who previously had to seek dialysis services at the Makueni County Referral Hospital in Wote.

The commissioning of the Ngaakaa facility is expected to greatly improve healthcare outcomes in Makindu–Twaandu Ward while reinforcing Makueni County’s broader health transformation agenda.
