Six Iranian nationals have been arraigned before the Shanzu Law Courts in Mombasa in connection with the trafficking of a massive consignment of methamphetamine valued at approximately Sh8.2 billion.

The suspects are linked to the seizure of 1,036.044 kilograms of the highly addictive narcotic, intercepted in October 2025 during a high-stakes multi-agency maritime operation in the Indian Ocean off the Kenyan coast.

According to court documents, security agencies intercepted a stateless dhow during a routine maritime patrol, leading to the arrest of the six suspects who were onboard the vessel. The accused were identified as Nia Jasem Darzadeh, Jadgal Nadeem Abdulgani, Baloch Hassan, Baloch Imran Mustafa, Baksh Rahim Goharam, and Daryayi Imtiyaz, also known as Pamin.

The charges were formally read in court following the conclusion of a Miscellaneous Application in which the prosecution had sought custodial orders to allow for further investigations. All six suspects pleaded guilty to the charges related to drug trafficking.

The court ordered that the accused be remanded at Shimo La Tewa GK Prison pending the reading of facts in the case, which has been scheduled for January 30, 2026.

The case underscores the government’s firm commitment and the continued vigilance of Kenya’s security agencies in combating transnational drug trafficking syndicates, as authorities intensify efforts to protect the country and the wider region from the devastating social and economic impact of illicit narcotics.
