Members of the National Assembly, led by the Deputy Leader of the Majority Party Owen Baya, on Wednesday joined national leaders, family, and friends at Ridgeways Baptist Church for a solemn requiem mass in honour of the late Nominated MP, Hamisi Denar Tui.
The gathering brought together leaders from across the political divide, including his former colleagues in the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity, and the Clerk of the National Assembly, Samuel Njoroge, who joined mourners in celebrating the life of a man widely regarded as a humble, principled, and devoted public servant.
The late Denar’s family led deeply moving tributes. His wife, Mrs. Ellene Denar, and their son, Joseph Hamisi Denar, spoke emotionally of the strong values, love, and stability he anchored within their home. Their reflections painted a portrait of a committed family man whose kindness and generosity extended far beyond his household.
Former Chief of Defence Forces, General (Ret.) Samson Mwathethe, described Denar as “a good man who treasured people — friends, family, and even acquaintances.” He expressed gratitude to Mrs. Ellene for supporting her husband’s long journey of service and urged all who benefited from Denar’s compassion to continue standing with the family.
Legislators including Hon. Liz Chelule, Hon. Irene Kasalu, and Hon. Oku Kaunya eulogised their departed colleague as a noble, respectful, and principled leader who carried himself with quiet dignity.
Former Minister and Taveta MP Naomi Shabaan remembered him as a “true Duruma Duruma” — a practical, no-nonsense leader and generous giver whose influence will endure for generations.
Former Cabinet Secretary Dan Kazungu described Denar as a determined go-getter whose drive inspired many, while Hon. Annah Gathecha Nyokabi praised his sharp mind and entrepreneurial spirit, noting how privileged she felt to have known him.
Delivering messages of condolence from President William Ruto and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Hon. Owen Baya hailed Denar as an exceptional man defined by humility, warmth, and quiet strength.
“He loved life, he loved people, and he served his family, his community, and the country with honour,” Baya said, adding that Denar played a meaningful role in shaping the political journeys of many coastal leaders.
Clerk of the National Assembly, Samuel Njoroge, remembered the late MP as a soft-spoken gentleman — philanthropic, peace-driven, and unwavering in character. He described Denar as “a gem… a true gentleman,” reaffirming Parliament’s commitment to support the family in line with its bereavement policies, and conveyed the apologies of Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who was unable to attend.
Hon. Hamisi Denar Tui leaves behind a legacy of dignity, service, and steadfast dedication to the people he served. As echoed throughout the ceremony, his impact remains firmly etched in the lives he touched and the communities he uplifted.
