Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti on Friday presided over the launch of a state-of-the-art Digital Innovation Hub in Mavoko, marking what she described as a “defining moment” in the county’s journey toward inclusive technological growth and economic transformation.

Addressing partners, county officials, MCAs, residents, and members of the media, Governor Wavinya said the new facility represents far more than bricks and machines — it signals the county’s strategic commitment to ensuring that every citizen, especially the youth, has access to digital skills, innovation spaces, and emerging economic opportunities.

“We gather today to witness a moment of immense pride for Machakos. This Digital Hub stands as a testament to our shared resolve to embrace innovation and unlock socio-economic transformation,” she said.

Governor Wavinya extended special recognition to partner organizations that played a vital role in bringing the project to fruition. Among them were the Power Learn Project, Brighter Monday, Kilimall, and Nailab, as well as academic partners Konza Technopolis, Daystar University, Strathmore University, and Machakos University. She also lauded legal support from Advocate Muoka, acknowledging the collective effort that made the hub possible.

According to the governor, the global shift toward a digital economy has fundamentally reshaped how societies work, compete, and thrive. Machakos, she noted, must not only keep pace but establish itself as a leader in digital transformation.

“For us, embracing the digital economy is not simply about adopting technology. It is a strategic imperative to secure the future of our citizenry,” Wavinya said. “We must ensure our youth are digitally equipped, our enterprises remain competitive, and our county stays ahead in a rapidly evolving world.”

She emphasized that the launch fulfills one of her core manifesto promises: equitable access to opportunities and the empowerment of young people through digital inclusion and entrepreneurship.

Digital Innovation Hubs, she said, are powerful engines of growth — spaces that eliminate geographical barriers, spur innovation, and nurture the skills required to thrive in the modern marketplace. Beyond serving as training centers, they act as incubators for startups, connectors to global markets, and catalysts for fresh ideas.

Wavinya revealed that the Mavoko hub is only the beginning. Her administration plans to replicate similar facilities across all nine sub-counties as part of a comprehensive ICT Development and Implementation Blueprint, ensuring no Machakos resident is left behind.

“In today’s competitive job market, digital literacy is not a luxury — it is essential,” she said. “This Hub ensures opportunity is not reserved for a select few. It widens access, nurtures talent, and turns potential into real possibilities.”

The governor ended by reaffirming her administration’s long-term commitment to innovation-driven development.

“With this launch, Machakos takes a confident stride toward becoming a digital leader in Kenya and the entire East African region,” she said. “Together, we are building a prosperous, empowered, and technologically progressive county.”

She thanked partners, stakeholders, and residents for believing in the vision and urged them to continue supporting initiatives that position Machakos at the forefront of digital transformation.
