A prominent Mombasa lawyer is among 22 individuals arrested in a sweeping counter-terrorism operation targeting alleged supporters, financiers, and facilitators of extremist activities across the country.
Andrew Chacha Mwita was apprehended on Friday, November 14, 2025, in Mombasa following a sting operation led by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU). Detectives accuse him of financing terrorism, placing him among a group of suspects believed to be involved in radicalization, recruitment, and funding of terror networks.
Mwita was presented before the Kahawa Law Courts on Monday, where investigators sought a 20-day custodial order to allow for further probe. The court is expected to deliver its ruling on Wednesday, November 19.
Meanwhile, the custodial application hearing for four Nairobi-based suspects—Richard Muriuki Murimi, Said Galgalo Duba, Ali Mohamed, and Dhalha Abdi Mohamed—was deferred to today, November 18.
In Kapseret, investigators are pursuing a 15-day custodial order against Anthony Odhiambo Odwuor, with a ruling set for November 25.
The courts will also determine, on November 26, a miscellaneous application seeking to detain Mombasa suspects Miriam Ali Abdalla and Aisha Abdullahi for 20 days to aid ongoing investigations.
On the same date, Marsabit-based suspects—Fatuma Yabalo Guyo, Jilo Arafti Halake, Ajirena Halake Sora, Safia Ture Bidu, Kabale Duba Ali, and Abdisalam Hassan Charfi—will learn the outcome of a 30-day custodial request filed by investigators.
The miscellaneous application hearings for the remaining seven suspects continue today at the Kahawa Law Courts.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to dismantling terror networks, vowing to leave no stone unturned in the ongoing crackdown.
