Nominated Senator Maureen Tabitha Mutinda has been elected as a member of the Board of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the 2025–2027 term — a prestigious appointment that has drawn praise and pride from her colleagues in the Senate, particularly those from the Ukambani region.
The Parliamentary Network board is tasked with setting the strategic agenda and providing guidance for the network’s global activities. Senator Mutinda will represent the East Africa region within the board, taking part in shaping parliamentary engagement with the World Bank and IMF on key development and financial issues.
Her appointment was formally communicated to the Senate on Wednesday by Speaker Amason Jeffah Kingi, who congratulated Senator Mutinda and urged her colleagues to support her as she assumes her new international role. She is set to formally take up her position on 13th October 2025 during the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and IMF.
In a rare show of unity and regional pride, Ukambani Senators — Enoch Wambua (Kitui), Agnes Kavindu Muthama (Machakos), and Dan Maanzo (Makueni) — led the House in celebrating Senator Mutinda’s milestone, describing it as both a personal triumph and a historic moment for the Kamba community.
Senator Enoch Wambua, visibly proud, expressed heartfelt admiration for his compatriot, describing her achievement as an inspiration to young people and women in Kitui County.
“To Senator Mutinda, I want to wish her well and tell her that we will support her in all ways possible. This is a time I cannot miss to brag because I have bragging rights — she is a daughter of Kitui County, from my constituency in Matinyani Ward,” he said.
“This is a great honour to our people. I want to tell ladies and young men in Kitui County that we are setting the pace for them. Senator Mutinda has set the pace for ladies from Kitui — let us go for it, let us do it. It is possible. We are proud of you, Senator Mutinda; go and conquer the world.”
His sentiments were echoed by Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu Muthama, who encouraged Mutinda to remain steadfast and represent women and the nation with dignity.
“Go and make us women proud. Go and stand your ground and do what is best for this country and for East Africa. Go and show that women can do it. May God be with you and help you as you serve the world,” Senator Kavindu said.
Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo also commended Mutinda’s appointment as a testament to the growing influence of Kenyan legislators on the global stage, while other senators across party lines described the election as a reflection of her competence and leadership.
Senator Joe Nyutu, in his remarks, noted that Mutinda’s selection was a recognition of merit.
“This is not an accidental nomination. Senator Mutinda is more than qualified to serve in that position, and we congratulate her and every other woman leader because it is proof that women leadership is being embraced not just in Kenya but worldwide.”
Senator Mutinda’s election marks a significant milestone for Kenya’s representation in international parliamentary platforms and underscores the country’s growing role in global financial and development policy dialogue.
As she prepares to take up her position, colleagues and constituents alike have expressed confidence that she will fly the Kenyan flag high and make East Africa proud on the world stage.
