There was pomp and celebration at Unoa Comprehensive School on Friday as students, teachers, parents, and friends of the institution welcomed the arrival of a brand-new 45-seater school bus.
The milestone acquisition was made possible through the combined efforts of parents, the school’s alumnae, friends of Unoa, and funding support from the Makueni National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Makueni MP Susan Ndunge Kiamba lauded the Board of Management, the teaching fraternity, and the wider Unoa community for daring to dream and working collectively to make it a reality.
“Many things fail to happen in our homes and our country because we lack dream-driven people. But when we have such people, it becomes easier to mobilize resources and achieve success. Today, we are celebrating because the Unoa fraternity dared to dream,” she said.
The legislator further congratulated alumnae of the school, particularly Judicial Service Commission Commissioner Caroline Nzilani, for her role in mobilizing resources towards the project.
“We have many educated people with a lot of money who forget where they came from. But Commissioner Caroline remembered her roots and rallied others to contribute to this noble cause,” the MP noted.
Even as she celebrated the milestone, Kiamba urged the community to now turn its focus toward the construction of a perimeter wall for the school. She explained that while the NG-CDF could fund the project, it would take at least three consecutive financial years to complete.
“If we could apply the same unity and initiative that gave us this bus, the perimeter wall would be completed much faster. I promise to support this plan to ensure its success,” she emphasized.
On her part, Commissioner Nzilani described the new bus as more than just a means of transport, but a “vehicle of opportunity.”
“This bus will open doors that were previously closed. Students will now have access to events such as music festivals, educational tours, and other co-curricular activities that were once out of reach,” she said.
Nzilani further thanked teachers, alumnae, and friends of the school for their tireless efforts in seeing the project succeed. As a gesture of commitment, she pledged to sponsor the bus’s maiden trip, rewarding top-performing students from each class with an educational tour of Nairobi.
The celebration marked a turning point for Unoa Comprehensive School, not only in improving student mobility but also in rallying the community to pursue bigger dreams—such as securing the school’s learning environment with a perimeter wall.
