Nthukula ABC Secondary School in Makueni County has been closed indefinitely following a student unrest on Thursday morning.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on September 25, 2025, when learners staged a walkout at around 7:00 a.m. The students, who left the school compound in protest, were headed to Makueni town with the intention of meeting the County Director of Education.
The group was intercepted at Kiatine, where the County Director of Education, accompanied by other officials, engaged the students.
The learners complained that two of their grievances, earlier presented on September 19, had not been addressed. Their demands included the transfer of the principal, Ms. Josephine Wavinya, and alleged victimization of two students who had been sent home.
Following the standoff, the county education team, alongside officers from Mukuyuni Police Station, convened an impromptu meeting by the roadside. After consultations, a decision was reached to close the school indefinitely.
Students were instructed to return to the institution under police supervision, collect their belongings, and vacate the premises.
Authorities have not yet indicated when the school will reopen, pending further consultations between education officials and other stakeholders.
