President William Ruto has assured Kenyans that no part of the country will be left behind in the government’s national transformation agenda, regardless of political choices made in past elections.

Speaking at Eastern Kenya Integrated College in Mitaboni, Machakos County, on Saturday, the President commended religious leaders in Ukambani for playing a critical role in persuading the community to support government programmes.

“I met bishops and church leaders from this region, and they convinced some political leaders who were hesitant that the path of rejecting development was wrong. Their leadership and guidance have helped align Ukambani with the national vision,” Dr. Ruto said.

He noted that, thanks to this partnership, key projects are being rolled out in Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties, including the construction of affordable housing, modern produce markets, and student hostels. The government has allocated KSh45 billion for these projects, alongside KSh5.5 billion each for road construction and electricity connection.

“It is not right or fair for any part of Kenya to remain behind. We are one nation, one people with a common destiny,” he said, adding that irrigation remains the “next frontier” for agricultural transformation in the region. The near-completion of Thwake Dam, he observed, will unlock massive irrigation potential and boost food production in Ukambani.

On education, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to adequately fund learning institutions, noting heavy investments in Competency-Based Education and Training as well as technical and higher education. “Education is the equaliser, and our young people are Kenya’s greatest asset,” he said.

The Head of State further announced that KSh800 million has been set aside for the ongoing construction of Kitui Stadium, which will host this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations. Roads in and around Kitui town are also being upgraded in preparation for the national event.

Among leaders present were Labour CS Alfred Mutua, MPs from Machakos County, and former Senator Johnstone Muthama. Dr. Mutua urged the Kamba community to rally behind the government, praising the President for making tough decisions that have helped stabilise the economy.
