A section of President William Ruto’s allies from Ukambani has come out guns blazing against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of peddling propaganda and spreading falsehoods aimed at discrediting the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Led by UDA National Organizing Secretary and Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, the leaders described Gachagua’s recent remarks in a local TV interview as baseless, misleading, and disrespectful to a government he once served at the highest level.
“It is unfortunate that a person who held the office of Deputy President has resorted to propaganda and political noise instead of offering constructive engagement,” Musyoka said during a boda boda empowerment drive at Kinyui Stadium on Monday.
The MP famously known as Kawaya questioned Gachagua’s integrity and track record while in office.
“Who are you to lecture people? You had two years in government, why didn’t you implement the good things you are now talking about? Kenyans have realized you thrive on propaganda. When asked for evidence, you stammer. You even went to America claiming Kenya’s government was linked to Al-Shabaab but failed to substantiate the claims on live TV,” Musyoka said.
He also alleged that Gachagua had become a ‘bad omen.’ “Harambee Stars was doing very well when he was away. The moment he returned, the team crumbled. When he was away, there were no abductions in this country—now he is back, you wait and see. There is a high possibility he is involved in the very things he keeps talking about,” he charged, warning the Kamba community not to associate with leaders “who once despised us, yet now call us cousins.”
Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda and Kangundo MP Fabian Kyule, echoed Musyoka’s sentiments, urging Kenyans to treat Gachagua’s remarks with contempt, saying he had lost credibility and moral ground to lecture anyone about governance.
Senator Tabitha Mutinda accused the former DP of being a perpetual complainer.
“When he was in government, he complained. Now that he is out of government, he is still complaining. Clearly, this is someone who has nothing positive to offer,” she said.
Kangundo MP Fabian Kyule dismissed Gachagua’s new-found positions as opportunistic.
“Why did he not see these issues when he was in government? He must not take Kenyans for fools. This is the same man who defended Matiang’i, the person responsible for the killing of boda boda riders and dumping them in River Tana. When did Matiang’i suddenly become a good person? Leaders like him are only rubbishing empowerment programmes we are rolling out for the youth, yet they do nothing to uplift them,” Kyule said.
The Ukambani leaders affirmed their unwavering support for President Ruto, insisting that his administration remains committed to delivering development and economic empowerment despite political distractions from “naysayers who have lost touch with reality.”
