Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has officially announced the transformation of Wiper Democratic Movement to Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF), saying the rebrand is a deliberate and necessary response to Kenya’s shifting political mood — especially the demands for change expressed by the country’s restless youth.

Addressing journalists after receiving the new certificate of registration from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, Kalonzo said the rebrand was motivated by the urgent need to move beyond slogans of democracy and take real, decisive steps to safeguard the nation’s values and sovereignty.

“We realized that you can be democratic forever and the country still goes to the dogs,” Kalonzo said. “What happened in 2023 and 2024 — when some of us were in the streets inhaling teargas — made it clear that the word democracy had become hollow if not backed by bold, patriotic action.”

According to the former Vice President, the decision to rename the party was deeply inspired by the 2024 Gen Z-led protests against oppressive taxation. Kalonzo praised the youth for reigniting national consciousness and challenging the political status quo.

“When Gen Z took to the streets, they reminded us that this country needs a new spirit — not one stuck in old political slogans. We are not saying they belong to this party — not at all — but we acknowledge that they’ve pushed all of us to reflect, to adapt, and to act,” he added.

Kalonzo said the term “Patriotic Front” better captures the party’s renewed commitment to protecting Kenya’s sovereignty, standing up for its citizens, and taking bold stances on national issues — especially where leadership has failed.

“We are now a National Patriotic Movement, not just a political party. Our duty is to act in defense of this country’s future. That requires courage, action, and national unity,” he said.

Kalonzo outlined the party’s plan to expand its reach ahead of the 2027 General Election, including fielding candidates in all 290 constituencies, over 1,500 ward seats, and across gubernatorial and senatorial contests.

“We are preparing to field candidates everywhere — this is no longer a regional outfit. The Wiper Patriotic Front is Kenya-wide, future-focused, and open to new members who share our vision,” he declared.

The name change also reflects a generational shift in Kenya’s political narrative, Kalonzo said, noting that traditional political parties risk becoming irrelevant if they fail to evolve.

“Political parties must not be static. We are not. We are responding to the call of the moment — and that moment demands a patriotic response to national pain, frustration, and aspiration,” Kalonzo said.

As the party prepares to convene a National Delegates Congress in the near future, Kalonzo said WPF will prioritize issues affecting young people, governance accountability, and protection of Kenya’s democracy — not in theory, but in action.

With this rebrand, Kalonzo signals that his party intends to play a central role in reshaping Kenya’s political future — by moving away from tokenism and embracing patriotism as the new standard of leadership.
