Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has said the proposed United Alternative Government is not merely about political slogans or changing leaders, but about presenting practical solutions to the challenges facing Kenyans.
Speaking during an interview with a local television station on Wednesday morning, Mwangangi said the alternative administration would focus on addressing the burden of high taxation, protecting the independence of public institutions and upholding constitutionalism.
“The United Alternative Government is not about chanting Wantam. It is about presenting practical solutions to the challenges Kenyans face,” Mwangangi said.
He said a key priority would be to ease the tax burden on citizens, arguing that Kenyans should not be subjected to excessive taxation to finance government programmes.
Mwangangi also pledged to safeguard the independence of key public institutions, including the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the National Police Service, saying such institutions must be allowed to operate independently and in accordance with the Constitution.
On the affordable housing programme, the Deputy Governor said the government should explore alternative financing models instead of placing additional financial pressure on taxpayers.
He said institutions such as Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs), pension funds and other financial institutions could be empowered to play a greater role in financing and developing affordable housing projects.
“Instead of burdening Kenyans with high taxes to build houses, the Government will empower institutions like SACCOs, pension funds and financial institutions, among others, to help in building affordable houses,” he said.
Mwangangi further said the United Alternative Government would prioritise strengthening devolution and improving the education sector to ensure that opportunities and essential services reach all Kenyans regardless of their social status or background.
He maintained that the proposed administration would seek to fundamentally transform the way government operates and interacts with citizens.
“Our focus is not merely to change leaders, but to change how government works for the people,” Mwangangi said.
The Machakos Deputy Governor's remarks come amid continued political debate over the future leadership of the country and the policies needed to address the economic and social challenges facing millions of Kenyans.
