More than 2,000 residents of Chonyi Sub-County in Kilifi County have benefited from free Huduma Mashinani services aimed at helping them obtain essential government documents.

Officials from Huduma Centre Kilifi pitched camp at Kidutani Primary School grounds, where residents accessed national identity cards, birth and death certificates, certificates of good conduct and voter registration services.

The programme was organized by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi’s liaison officer, Sammy Ndago, who arrived at the venue by helicopter early Sunday and oversaw the exercise.

Ndago, a former Shimo la Tewa MCA who is eyeing the Kilifi South parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, said the Huduma Mashinani initiative would continue until residents in the area have access to the documents they need.

He urged young people, particularly those seeking employment, to take advantage of the programme, noting that a lack of identification documents and certificates of good conduct had locked many out of job opportunities.

Ndago also called on residents aged 18 and above to obtain national IDs and register as voters, saying increased youth participation would give them an opportunity to elect fellow young people to Parliament and county assemblies.

“You will agree with me that we wronged this nation by storming Parliament using force. We now have an opportunity in 2027 to vote for our fellow youths to represent us in Parliament,” Ndago said.

He further urged Kilifi residents to register as voters in large numbers so they could freely elect leaders of their choice. He also challenged local leaders to do more in mobilizing support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid.

Ndago said he would like to see more youthful MPs and MCAs elected in Kilifi, while calling for continued consultation with the region’s older political leaders.

On the emerging debate over political zoning, Ndago opposed efforts to determine which leaders should contest specific positions, insisting that voters should be allowed to choose their preferred candidates.

“We will not allow zoning in Kilifi County,” he said, urging President Ruto and ODM leader Oburu Odinga to support political inclusivity and allow residents to make their own choices ahead of the 2027 General Election.
