The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has unveiled an ambitious reorganisation and rebranding plan as it intensifies preparations for the 2027 General Election, while expanding its leadership and membership base to strengthen the opposition alliance.
The resolutions were reached during a Joint Council and National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday at the SKM Command Centre in Nairobi and chaired by the coalition's Party Leader, H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka.
Among the key decisions was the approval of a comprehensive restructuring of the coalition's internal organs, including a full rebranding of the Azimio la Umoja coalition aimed at repositioning it ahead of the next General Election.
The coalition also admitted three prominent political leaders into its ranks: Dr. Fred Matiang'i, the Deputy Party Leader of the Jubilee Party; Hon. Peter Munya, Party Leader of the Party of National Unity (PNU); and Hon. Lenny Kivuti, Party Leader of the Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP).
In a move aimed at broadening its political base, the Council resolved to invite additional political parties to join the coalition. These include the Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K) led by Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, Umoja na Maendeleo Party led by Governor Kawira Mwangaza, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) under Hon. Omingo Magara, and the Democratic Party (DP) led by Hon. Justin Bedan Muturi, whose representatives also attended the meeting.
The NEC further approved the admission of Mr. Abdi Hassan from the North Eastern region into the National Executive Council, a move the coalition said would enhance its national representation and inclusivity.
The meeting also formally mandated Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka to continue engaging like-minded political parties and formations with the aim of building a broader opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 elections. Among the parties targeted for engagement are the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), the People's Liberation Party (PLP), the United Green Movement, and the Linda Mwananchi Party once it is formally registered.
The high-level meeting was attended by Executive Director Philip Kisia, Secretary General Hon.
