Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) of acting under political influence following reports that he is among leaders under investigation over alleged hate speech.
Gachagua claimed that Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale's recent remarks about the Mt. Kenya region sparked public outrage and that the NCIC's decision to investigate him was intended to shift attention away from the controversy. He alleged that the commission was being used to advance the government's political agenda rather than operating as an independent constitutional body.
The former Deputy President maintained that his public statements are based on what he believes to be facts and are made in the public interest. He said that anyone who feels aggrieved by his remarks should seek legal redress through the courts instead of relying on what he described as politically motivated investigations.
Gachagua vowed to continue criticizing President William Ruto's administration and its allies, insisting that the NCIC's actions would not deter him. He also reaffirmed his commitment to his political campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying he would continue advocating for what he described as truth and accountability.
