President William Ruto on Thursday reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to deepening its longstanding partnership with Tanzania and Zanzibar, describing the relationship as one founded on decades of friendship, mutual respect, and strong socio-economic ties.

Ruto made the remarks after holding bilateral talks with Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi on the sidelines of the 11th Our Ocean Conference in Mombasa.

The President said Kenya and Tanzania continue to enjoy deep historical connections that have fostered close cooperation between their people and governments over the years. He noted that both sides remain committed to expanding collaboration in strategic sectors that can drive economic growth and improve livelihoods.

Among the key areas discussed were the blue economy, trade, and investment, which the two leaders identified as critical pillars for enhancing regional prosperity and creating new opportunities for citizens.

According to Ruto, the talks underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation in harnessing shared maritime resources, boosting cross-border trade, and attracting investment to support sustainable development.

The meeting comes at a time when East African nations are increasingly seeking stronger regional partnerships to unlock economic opportunities while addressing common challenges affecting coastal and marine ecosystems.

The two leaders expressed optimism that closer collaboration between Kenya and Zanzibar would contribute to greater economic integration and improved livelihoods for communities across the region.
