Mbooni Member of Parliament Hon. Erastus Kivasu has commissioned a modern girls' dormitory at St. Alphonsa Kisau Girls' Secondary School, describing the project as a major investment in the safety, welfare and academic success of learners in the constituency.

The MP officially opened the facility during the school's 2026 Prize Giving Day ceremony, where he reaffirmed his commitment to improving educational infrastructure through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Speaking during the event, Kivasu revealed that the dormitory project was inspired by a surprise visit he made to the school some time ago, where he personally inspected the students' accommodation facilities and found them inadequate.

"I came here unannounced and requested to see the dormitory. I found the beds arranged without proper order and immediately felt that the school urgently needed a better facility. I am grateful that today we are opening this modern dormitory that will provide our girls with a safe and conducive environment," said the MP.

Kivasu noted that the project was implemented through the NG-CDF under his patronage and in collaboration with the constituency NG-CDF Committee after receiving requests from the school management.

The legislator said he had made it his mission to elevate St. Alphonsa Kisau Girls' to the status of a leading institution in Mbooni, comparable to other top-performing schools in the constituency.

"This is our second alliance-level school in Mbooni after Mbooni Girls. I committed myself to ensuring that Kisau Girls receives the necessary support to attain and maintain that status," he said.

The MP further disclosed that the school had repeatedly requested assistance in addressing water challenges through the drilling of a borehole. While noting that water services are a devolved function, he expressed optimism that ongoing partnerships could help secure a borehole for the institution in the future.

Kivasu emphasized that the dormitory was designed with the welfare and security of the girls in mind.

"These are our daughters. We must ensure they are safe, secure and have a conducive environment for learning. When students are comfortable and settled, school attendance improves, academic performance rises and their overall welfare is enhanced," he said.

He challenged the students to work hard in their studies, noting that investment in girls' education yields benefits for the entire society.

"When you educate a girl, you educate a nation. When our girls at Kisau Girls excel, Mbooni excels and Kenya equally benefits," he added.

Project Committee Chairperson Dr. Margaret Musyoka praised the MP for initiating and funding the project, describing the dormitory as one of the finest facilities in the region.

"We are proud of what has been achieved here. Through close collaboration between the school's project committee and the MP's office, we have delivered a beautiful and modern facility that will greatly benefit our learners," said Dr. Musyoka.

She commended the NG-CDF team for regularly monitoring the project's progress to ensure quality standards were maintained throughout construction.

Dr. Musyoka expressed confidence that the improved learning environment would contribute to better academic performance and increased enrolment at the school.

"We want our girls not only to sleep comfortably but also to excel academically. St. Alphonsa Kisau Girls is growing rapidly, and we look forward to continued support that will enable the school to reach even greater heights," she said.

School Principal Florence Kimeu welcomed the completion of the dormitory, saying it would significantly improve the comfort and concentration of students.

She, however, noted that the school continues to face accommodation challenges due to a growing student population.

"We are grateful for this dormitory because it will ensure our girls are comfortable and can concentrate on their studies. However, the need to decongest our students still exists because some learners are currently sleeping in the dining hall. There is therefore a need for another dormitory," said the principal.

The commissioning of the facility marked a significant milestone for the school and underscored ongoing efforts by the NG-CDF to strengthen learning infrastructure and improve the welfare of students across Mbooni Constituency.
