Muslim leaders in Kilifi County have cautioned politicians against engaging in inflammatory rhetoric that could fuel insecurity and divide Kenyans ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking after Eid al-Adha prayers at Masjid Barawa in Malindi Town, the leaders expressed concern over rising cases of tribal politics and political intolerance, warning that such conduct could plunge the country into chaos if left unchecked.

Led by community leaders Suleiman Salim and Famau Mohamed, the clerics called for disciplinary action against leaders accused of making divisive and inciteful statements.

Famau Mohamed said politicians had become the main drivers of unrest by allegedly manipulating and inciting the youth to violence for political gain.

He urged relevant authorities to take firm action against leaders spreading hate and division, noting that irresponsible politics posed a serious threat to national unity and peaceful coexistence.

Mohamed also appealed to Muslims and other Kenyans celebrating Eid al-Adha to mark the occasion responsibly by avoiding reckless behavior, accidents, and acts that could erode moral values in society.

At the same time, Suleiman Salim, who chairs the Malindi Municipality, assured visitors and residents that Malindi remained peaceful, secure, and conducive for holiday celebrations.

He encouraged both locals and tourists visiting the coastal town during the festive season to celebrate responsibly while maintaining peace and harmony.
