Makueni Launches Children's Assembly To Boost Youth Voice In Governance

The Government of Makueni County has unveiled the county chapter of the Kenya Children’s Assembly, marking a significant milestone in promoting child participation in governance and decision-making processes.

The Children’s Assembly is a structured forum designed to bring together young people to deliberate on issues that directly affect their lives, including education, health, protection, and overall wellbeing. Modeled to mirror formal governance systems, the platform features elected child leaders who assume roles such as Governor, Speaker, and Clerk.

This setup provides children with hands-on experience in leadership, representation, and democratic processes, while also enabling them to contribute to policy discussions that shape their future.

With the establishment of the Makueni chapter, children in the county now have a formal and organized avenue to actively engage in development matters. The initiative further creates opportunities for their representation at the national level, where they will join peers from across the country to deliberate on broader issues and contribute to national discourse.

The launch event, held at Wote Greenpark on Tuesday, was officiated by County Executive Committee Member for Gender, Children, Youth, Sports and Social Services Eng. Sebastian Kyoni. The event was also attended by officials from the State Department for Children Services, underscoring the collaborative effort to amplify the voices of children in governance.
